Paul VI High School is proud to announce former South Jersey Player of the Year Lisa Steele, as the new head coach for the girls basketball team. Coach Reilly stepped down after one year for personal reasons and Paul VI wasted no time in their search for a new Head Coach. Among the dozen who interviewed Steele stood out with both her credentials and her philosophy.
She played college ball at George Washington University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. She was an assistant coach at Mount St. Mary’s in Maryland while earning her MBA. She continued in coaching at Wagner College, a Division I Program in Staten Island.
Steele is involved in Blue Star Productions out of Bensalem, Pa. and is widely know for her involvement with the Philadelphia Belles AAU programs.
Lisa is currently employed by the Black Horse Pike School District as a long-term substitute teacher in the science department.
Lisa will meet the Paul VI girls this week and her position as head coach is effective immediately.

Each week, girls’ basketball writer Celeste Whittaker will spend five minutes bouncing a wide range of questions off some of the top high school girls players in South Jersey.
In our first Q & A of the girls’ basketball season, she speaks with Paul VI senior guard Kiana Ye, a Sacred Heart recruit.
The questions will be lighthearted and fun — with some hoops mixed in.
CW: What was it about Sacred Heart that made you choose them? KY: Everything about Sacred Heart on the visit felt perfect. The coaches and players were so welcoming, and I watched their practice and I felt like I could be a part of that program. I knew it was the perfect fit for me.
CW: What’s your favorite thing about playing hoops? KY: The whole experience, like meeting new friends on the basketball court. Right now, every team I play, I at least know two people. The connections that we make during the whole basketball experience is my favorite.
CW: What are your expectations for your team this season? KY: We are a young program this year. Basically, it’s a fresh start. I see us growing together as a team and family. I only see a positive road ahead of us. We have a lot of young talent that will help us win and more importantly reach our goals for the season.
CW: What are you listening to right now — what’s your favorite song? KY: I like Justin Bieber’s ‘All that Matters’ and then I like ‘Say Something’ by A Great Big World.
CW: What meal is your favorite? KY: Well, since I am Chinese, I prefer Chinese food. I like General Tso chicken.
CW: What’s your favorite shot to take on the court? KY: I love the 3-pointer.
CW: When you have a day off from school and from playing basketball, what do you do? KY: I usually just go to the gym and lift weights. There are no days off, really.
CW: Do you have a favorite TV show? KY: I like ‘Gossip Girls.’
CW: Which team do you root for — any sport? KY: I like the Golden State Warriors in the NBA. I
love Stephen Curry.
CW: What article of clothing is your fav? KY: Definitely sweatshirt and sweat pants.
CW: When did you start playing basketball? KY: I’ve been playing since fourth grade.
CW: What career path will you choose? KY: I plan on playing basketball overseas after college, but if not I want to be a businesswoman in the business world.
