Paul VI High School’s Service Hour Program

Paul VI High School’s philosophy is to integrate service in to our students’ school experience.  Service is at the root of who we are as Christians.  Students embrace the Gospel message, “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12), when they meet the needs of their community.  Community service is a vital part of our education because it develops the whole person, and is a proper response to Paul VI’s mission statement and objectives, “ Paul VI High School calls students to open their minds and hearts to this truth, be enlightened and transformed by it, and then go into the world and proclaim it by their words and deeds.”

Paul VI students are required to meet the following minimum Service Hours Requirements in order to graduate.

●   1 service project completed during freshman year.
The service project could be served within a program within Paul VI or completed outside the school.  The intent is to introduce the student to various programs and service opportunities within their school and community.  There are no minimum hours required.

●   1 service project completed during sophomore year.
The service project could be served within a program within Paul VI or completed outside the school.  The intent is to introduce the student to various programs and service opportunities within their school and community.  There are no minimum hours required.

●   20 hours of service completed during junior year.

●   30 hours of service completed during senior year.

●   Service done for immediate family, close relatives, or friends does not count toward the requirement unless permitted by the Service Coordinator.  The student must get permission prior to service.  The expectation of Juniors and Seniors is to serve the wider school community to promote both solidarity and awareness of the greater community needs.

●   Service resulting in payment will not count towards service requirement.

Paul VI will be using Mobileserve next year.  Mobileserve will allow you to track your service hours right on your phone.  Mobileserve will also help you find volunteer opportunities in your area.  The app will also have all PVI service opportunities as well.

"As I completed my service hours, I felt as though I was making a change in my community and in the lives of others. I learned that volunteering is a two-way street. Not only do you get the chance to give back but you too will benefit. Volunteering allows you to have new experiences. Experiences you would never get unless you put yourself out there. I was able to make new friends and learn new life skills. I truly believe that giving back to the community had changed my life. I enjoyed volunteering and representing Paul VI in a positive light."
