Paul VI has been flirting with The Star-Ledger's Top 20 for the past three weeks. It won six straight games, including an upset victory over No. 18 Sterling on Wednesday, after dropping its first match of the year to ninth-ranked Cherokee.
Paul VI relies on its depth both offensively and defensively to compete. Although senior outside hitter Katie Underwood heads the offense with 104 kills, the Camden County school has seven other players that have reached double-figures in kills. The defense is quarterbacked by freshman libero Sophia Marziello, who has tallied 61 digs. Adding to the new comers totals has been senior duo Carly Histing a and Brenna Jones, both of whom registered 64 digs this season.
