iBooks

iBooks is a remarkable app that comes preinstalled on your iPad. If you have a Mac at home running OS-X Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion, then you can also have this app as a feature on your desktop or laptop.
In short, the app is basically a reader, which allows access to both books and PDF files. The interface on the app, however, is what makes it truly special. Below are the basic steps to open and view some of the functions of iBooks. There is also a list of the free books in app store, which you will be required to read during freshmen year, so you should go ahead and download these now.

  1. Open iBooks and this will bring you to your standard bookshelf. (Note if you ever close iBooks in the midst of reading a book, then the next time you open iBooks it will go right to that book and page, and you have to hit the left tab to get back to your bookshelf.)
  2. Click the tab “collection” and you will see option to view “books” or “PDFs” At the bottom of the tab is a section, which allows you to create a “new” collection. You should itemize your collections by class and personal use to make it easier to find books and study for your courses.
  3. Click “new” and type in the course. (Ex: Mr. Markellos- English). You can then move books or PDFs from the main bookshelf into this collection.
  4. At the very top of the bookshelf, you also have the option of playing around with the view of the bookshelf and its contents. The squares are the standard bookshelf option and the three panel lines allows you to view it as line categories.
