This year-long course is designed for students who wish to strengthen their dance technique and performance while increasing their knowledge of dance history and terminology. Students will observe professional productions and works to gain an appreciation for the art. Students will also be exposed to the performance skills of dance as it applies to their study of classical technique. Students are required to perform in the Paul VI Christmas Concert and the Springs Arts Festival. An audition for all interested students is required.
This year-long course is designed for students who have completed Integrated Dance Styles and/or have sufficient outside dance training. The emphasis of the course will be to analyze different dance styles: tap, modern, hip-hop, musical theatre, and lyrical dance. The objective of the course will be to identify, perform, and create different styles of choreography. Participation and observation of dance concerts/performances and after-school rehearsals will be mandatory.

This course challenges students by focusing on various types of 2D art. A strong emphasis on drawing provides the essential basis for all other areas of art. Students will learn to draw objects, figures, and interiors in proper perspective and proportion. Students will further develop their skills in design with projects that explore different approaches to personal expression using an assortment of media including pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, colored pencil, and conte crayon. Students will also be introduced to the basics of painting, learning to produce their own work by using the proper tools and techniques for each medium (tempera, watercolor, pastels) while becoming familiar with numerous painting styles. Admission to this course is based on portfolio requirement.
This course is a continuation and further development of the Music Theory course. This course covers everything from the fundamentals of sound and music notation to popular song forms and chord scales for improvisation and composition. Students must have the permission of the music teacher and/or have completed the Music Theory course.

This advanced placement course is the prepartion of the studio art portfolio which consists of 2-D design, 3-D design, and Drawing. The students are asked to demonstrate mastery of 2-D design thorugh any two-dimensional medium or process. In 3-D design students are asked to demonstrate their understanding of design priniciples as they relate to the integration of depth and space, volume and surface. The drawing portfolio is intended to address a broad interpretation of drawing issues and media through a variety of means which could include painting. Drawing areas include: line quality, light and shade, rendering of form, compostion, surface manipulation, the illusion of depth and mark-making. In addition to the regular class periods, one free period a cycle will be scheduled in teh art room. Addmision to this course is baded on portfolio requirement.
This course is for the serious art student in preparation for the Advanced Placement Studio Art course. Assignments include 2-D and 3-D designs for the AP Studio Art portfolio. This course will concentrate on creating dances around a theme. This course will lead student choreographers through the process of building dances to the level of performance. Completed choreography will be presented in concert. Attending afterschool rehearsals, concerts and performances is mandatory.

Basic computer aided drafting is designed for the student who is interested in computer aided drafting because he or she wishes to be a draftsman, an engineer, an industrial designer, an architect, or a member of any one of the numerous other professions, which demand knowledge of computer aided drafting. This course is devoted to teaching the fundamentals of the subject so that the student can achieve skill, solid accomplishment and sound understanding.
CAUTION: Computer aided drafting bears little resemblance to art; however, even the student of fine arts will find the topics of free-hand sketching, pictorial drawing, and mechanical drafting techniques helpful.
This program will introduce the student to size description (dimensioning). This will include developing a basic knowledge of processes used in manufacturing and design. Also, at this level students will continue to improve their skills in the areas of sectional and auxiliary views. The course will provide the student with a basic knowledge of the fields of architectural, electrical and mechanical drafting and will enable the students to concentrate on a specific field.

This full year course will enable students to explore the processes and techniques involved in graphic arts and digital photography. It addresses the illustrative quality of graphic design, followed by a natural progression to the computer, working with the programs Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Students will not only be introduced to the basics of computer graphics, but also will learn to incorporate the elements and principles of design in their work by using traditional media (pen and ink, watercolors and pencil), graphic images, typography, and advertising. Students will also study the mechanical and practical workings of the digital camera to create original artistic images and exploring ways to manipulate, alter, and/or enhance their photographs using Adobe Photoshop. Students are required to keep an active sketchbook/journal throughout the course.

Students must supplement their in school training by studying ballet with an outside dance studio. Proof of training will be required. An audition for all interested students is required.

Each student will be required to write a script for a morning newscast, broadcast the news on the air, prepare the set and prompts, direct a broadcast, edit the broadcast, and learn to use the cameras and studio equipment. The goal of this course will be the successful production of a daily newscast to be aired in homeroom. Students will complete the course able to utilize all studio equipment and write for broadcast. In addition, each student will have a taped portfolio of broadcasts that can be presented for college admission. This course may require extracurricular production time.
In this course students will learn to identify and utilize local media outlets. The course will focus on writing in the AP style creating a public realtions campaign, maintaining a web-site and publishing the school paper. The students will write press releases and establish contacts with local media in order to publicize Paul Vi events. The students will learn about slogan design and mass marketing implementation along with the implementation of basic advertising techniques for writing and creating ads, flyers, and brochures.
This full year course will challenge students to explore what is necessary to create well designed and interesting sculptural forms using many different mediums and approaches, including wood construction, plaster, clay, metal, cardboard construction, and found objects. Students focus half the year on these and other types of sculpture, and then progress for the remainder of the course
to further explore metal as an artistic medium. Traditional jewelry and metal fabrication techniques will be learned such as piercing, sawing, soldering, polishing, stone setting and enameling. Students will learn how to incorporate the elements and principles of design into properly constructed and well designed jewelry and/or metal sculptures.
PREREQUISITE: Basic Design or Interview and approval of instructor required.

The show choir will present a series of performances throughout the year. This course meets 3 periods per cycle for the school year. Attending afterschool rehearsals, performances, and competitions is mandatory. An audition for all interested students is required.
