2017 Girls Volleyball Non-Public Schools to watch

FAVORITE: Immaculate Heart has been a staple at the top of the Non-Public rankings seemingly forever. The team has won 10 consecutive Non-Public titles and has won the Tournament of Champions seven times in the past 10 years.

The Blue Eagles beat Hudson Catholic to win the Non-Public crown last fall before falling to Old Tappan in the T of C final.
Catherine Fazio will lead this extremely experienced team once again after recording more than 350 kills last fall. Sydney Taylor had over 250 kills of her own and is poised for a solid junior year. Julia MorrisColette PetricErica Timpanaroand Kaela Wong fill out an extremely strong and successful senior class.

Players to watch in 2017

Melissa MarteBloomfield, Sr.: Marte more than doubled her kills from the 2015 season last fall, notching 263. Her solid season with Bloomfield resulted in a Second Team All-Group 4 mention at the end of the year.

Veronica CavaCamden Catholic, Sr.: Cava was a dominant server for Camden Catholic in 2016. She led the state with 118 aces and also picked up 270 assists.

Kayleigh KitchenCherokee, Sr.: Kitchen reached new heights with a strong 2016 season for Cherokee. She led the team with over 200 kills and recorded 84 digs.

Audrey LeakDwight-Englewood, So.: Leak recorded the most kills in the state by a freshman in 2016. She notched at least 10 in a game 11 times. She is poised for a break-out season.

Jordyn HorowitzEast Brunswick, Sr.: A Third Team All-State and First Team Group 4 star, Horowitz will be more than ready to build off of her best year yet with 264 kills, 147 digs and 45 aces.

Megan HickeyHackensack, Sr.: Hickey put together a terrific season for Hackensack last fall. She was one of the best in the state at setting up teammates and finished the season with 658 assists. She also had 185 digs and 188 service points.

Alanis Alvarado
Hudson Catholic: A dynamic leader for her Hudson Catholic team, Alvarado racked up over 340 kills last year. She had at least 10 kills in 21 matches.

Samantha Heller
Hunterdon Central, Sr.: Heller was another key fixture in a strong season for Hunterdon Central. The 2016 season was a breakout one for Heller as she eclipsed 200 kills and 150 digs.

Sydney Taylor
Immaculate Heart, Jr.: Taylor is another young star on a powerhouse Immaculate Heart team. A Second Team All-Non-Public player, Taylor racked up triple-digit totals in service points with 181, kills with 253 and digs with 251.

Julia Morris
, Immaculate Heart, Sr.: Morris played a key role for Immaculate Heart in winning its 10th consecutive Non-Public state title. She led the state with 950 assists, which was 700 more than she had last fall.

Catherine Fazio
, Immaculate Heart, Sr.: Her 335 kills were tops on the team and she also was terrific on defense with 270 digs. She also had 231 service points and 50 aces.

Nicole Villamil
Montville, Sr.: Villamil enjoyed a breakout season for Montville last fall. She racked up over 235 kills, 145 digs and also had 84 blocks. She was named Second Team All-Group 2.

Riley O'Dowd
Morris Catholic, Sr.: O’Dowd was a Third Team All-State player last fall and was a force for Morris Catholic. She reached new heights in 2016 recording career highs in service points (156), kills (301), digs (142) and aces (58).

Annie Karle
Mount Olive, Sr.: Karle played exceptionally well on both sides of the ball. Her 272 digs were a career high and so were the 348 kills she had.

Isabella Soriano
, Mount Olive, Jr.: An extremely skilled setter, Soriano nearly hit 600 assists last year. She had double-digit assists in all games but one and reached at least 20 on 14 occasions. Her season high was 45.

Jessica Sanderson
Mount St. Dominic, Jr.: A First Team All-Prep honoree, Sanderson burst onto the scene with a stellar sophomore campaign last fall.

Olivia Hindy
Oak Knoll, Sr.: Hindy’s terrific season resulted in a First Team All-Prep honor last fall. She matched or set career highs in multiple categories including kills with 211 and blocks with 47.

Julia Passante
Old Tappan, Sr.: Passante was dominant for the state’s top team. She had 208 kills and was named First Team All-State after a strong junior season.

Grace UnderwoodPaul VI, Sr.: Underwood had a stand-out season for Paul Vi. She led the team with 215 kills while also setting career highs with 62 aces and 82 blocks.

Carly Jannsch
Pinelands, Sr.: Jannsch’s terrific season resulted in a Second Team All-Group 2 honor in 2016. She enjoyed a break-out season with over 220 kills, 245 digs and 56 service aces.

Elena Montgomery
Ramapo, Sr.: Montgomery was an important figure, helping Ramapo capture a Group 2 title. She finished the season with over 300 kills and picked up 23 in the Group 2 final against River Dell.

Jenna Rogers
Rutherford, So.: Rogers was one of the top freshmen in the state last fall and was sensational from start to finish. She reached triple digits with 172 service points, 188 kills and 152 digs.

Alyssa Fooks
Washington Township, Sr.: Fooks put together a great junior year with the Minutemaids and will look to build on it this fall. She made Third Team All-Group 4 with over 215 kills, 34 aces and 46 blocks.

Stephanie Borr
Westfield, Sr.: Borr earned First Team All-Group 4 honors in 2016. She eclipsed 200 kills for the first time in her career and also was big on defense for Westfield with over 165 digs.

Carly Waterman
Verona, Sr.: Waterman was sensational all year for her squad. Her 464 kills were the most on the team and in the state. Last year’s All-State middle blocker is ready for another big season.
