Honorable Nan S. Famular, Class of 1973

Nan attended the University of Scranton from 1973-1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services/Counseling. Nan went on to attend Widener University Law School from 1977-1980 and received Doctorate of Jurisprudence (JD degree).

In August of 1980 Nan married Joseph Famular and they have five children Bob, Joann, Dan, Mike and Andrew, all are Paul VI alumni.

Upon graduation from law school Nan was employed as an associate in the firm of Sherman , Silverstein and Kohl in Cherry Hill. She became a partner in that firm in 1985 and continued her career as a general trial attorney until 2002 when she became a partner in the firm of Adinolfi and Spevak in Haddonfield. In 2004, she received word from the governor’s office that she was being considered for a Superior Court judgeship and she was nominated and appointed to that position in January of 2005. She serves as a New Jersey State Superior Court Judge in the Family Division, Camden vicinage. Nan graduated from Paul VI in 1973. While in PVI, she was Student Council vice president, spent two years as a member of the PVI girls track team, one year on the girls field hockey team and on the Dance committee (yes we did have dances every Saturday night) the Spanish Club, Social Welfare club, and the Forensics club. She was a member of the National Honor Society Junior and Senior year.

Nan is Involved in her parish of St. Rose of Lima in Haddon Heights where over the years she served on the Parish Council , chaired the athletic committee and was a member of the Social Action committee, and is a Eucharistic Minister. When her oldest son was a freshman at PVI Nan approached Msgr. Rock (then Fr. Rock) about PVI having a fashion show as a fundraiser. That year Nan chaired our first fashion show and raised a meager $7,000. Now it is a major fundraiser for our school. That same year, Nan formed the first PTO and served as PTO president for the first two years.

Some of her best memories at PVI were the sports programs. “We would never think of not attending a basketball or football game , the stands were packed and the student body was very involved.” In addition, PVI dances were the place to be with students coming from surrounding schools and always a packed house for those events. “Some of my favorite teachers in PVI were Mrs. Delorey for public speaking, Sr. Josephine for Spanish and Mr. O’Brien for history. Mrs. Delorey helped me to develop confidence in speaking in front of a group of people, Sr. Josephine introduced me to a foreign language (I had never spoken anything but English) and all of us girls wanted to be in Mr. O’Brien’s class just to look at him!”

Nan has remained an active part of the PVI community because she believes in the education and values that our school imparts upon our students. She believes the school has remained true to a core set of principles and goals that students can expect and rely on.

As for advice for those in high school, “Don’t try to conform to what others are doing if you don’t feel comfortable doing those things and above all, don’t take yourself or all the high school drama too seriously, remember, IT’S HIGHSCHOOL!”
