Components Of A Comprehensive High School Campus
Ministry
"Ministry with adolescents
utilizes each of the Church’s ministries – advocacy, catechesis,
community life, evangelization, justice and service, leadership
development, pastoral care, prayer and worship – in an integrated
approach..." (Renewing the vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth
Ministry, USCCB, 26, 1997.)
The Campus Ministry Program, ever mindful of the Spiritual Goals of
Paul VI High School, provides and supports the resources necessary
for each student to fulfill these important and life sustaining
goals:
- Advocacy – empowers young
people by giving them a voice and calling them to responsibility and
accountability around issues that affect them and their future. Paul
VI High School instills in our students a Christian moral
perspective regarding contemporary society in order that they may become
effective witnesses to the Christian Message.
- Catechesis – integrates
knowledge of the Catholic faith with the development of practical
skills for living the Catholic faith in today’s world. This
complements the religious education program in the high school. Paul
VI High School extensively utilizes the "Catechism of the Catholic
Church" in conjunction with the Religious Education Curriculum and
the Curriculum as a whole.
- Community Life –
collaborates with parish ministerial staff to provide avenues for
adolescents to participate as members of the parish and school
community and opportunities for the faith community to acknowledge,
celebrate and value its adolescent members. Paul VI High School
continually develops a school community where administrators,
teachers, staff, students, and parents respect and support one
another.
- Evangelization – calls
young people to be evangelizers to other young people, their
families and the community. Christian service activities, such as
food drives, Pro-Life activities, SADD, student tutoring, and other
relevant service projects are always advanced by the students of
Paul VI High School.
- Justice and Service –
involves adolescents, their families and parish communities in
actions of direct service to those in need and in efforts to address
the causes of injustice and inequity and nurtures a lifelong
commitment to service and justice involvement. The full Gospel of
Jesus Christ, as handed down by the Catholic Church, is presented to
the students of Paul VI High School as the model and the framework
needed for a peace-filled existence.
- Leadership Development –
utilizes adult and adolescent leaders in the variety of leadership
roles necessary for comprehensive ministry. An awareness that we are
always in the presence of God is brought to mind in our daily
prayers that are often lead by students. All classes participate in
timely and appropriate meditations and retreats. These activities
enable the students of Paul VI High School to grow spiritually and
assist the faculty and staff in a variety of School and Campus
Ministry functions.
- Pastoral Care – promotes
positive adolescent and family development, provides care and
guidance, challenges systems that are obstacles to positive
development, and maintains a contact/referral list to connect youth
and their families with support services as needed. Because Paul VI
High School aids students in attaining self-esteem by being
sensitive to their needs, supportive in their various endeavors, and
available for consultation, our students are ready to serve within
their communities. They give and learn from example.
- Prayer and Worship –
focuses on the spiritual needs of the student body and staff. The
chapel is the heart of Paul VI High School, where Christ is present
in the Holy Eucharist. Students and faculty experience Sacred
Liturgy, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and various prayer
services in this blessed space. A quiet oasis for private prayer and
reflection or a communal gathering celebrates and deepens student relationships with Jesus Christ
through communal prayer and liturgical experiences.
